Congressman Lacks Credibility on Tax-Relief Danbury-- State Senator David Cappiello today slammed his opponent, CongressmanChristopher Murphy, for his tax-hiking record in Washington. “Murphy has a lot of nerveattempting to pass himself off as an advocate of relief for Connecticuttaxpayers,” said Cappiello. “Aftervoting for the largest tax increase in American history, which would haveimpacted Connecticut more than any other state, he’s now touting anelection-year tax rebate gimmick that’s a fraction of the dollar amount he justmonths ago voted to confiscate from the taxpayers.” Murphy voted in favor ofthe House Democrat Budget, H. Con. Res 99, Roll No. 212, which included a $400BILLION tax increase. Thisamounted to an average increase of $4300 per taxpayer in Connecticut. “If tax relief is good forAmerica this year, then its good for American taxpayers EVERY year,” Cappiello continued. “Just months ago, Murphy thought thattax increases were a good idea, and openly opposes making the 2001 and 2003 taxcuts permanent. In this time ofeconomic uncertainty, Connecticut taxpayers need a Congressman who willconsistently fight for tax relief, not just when it’s politicallyexpedient. I have as a StateSenator, and I will as a Congressman. My opponent, frankly, has not.” #### |
