Exceeding expectations, Cappiello shows he is ready for showdown in November

Danbury—  State Senator David Cappiello, candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s Fifth District, once again exceeded expectations by raising $400,000 since April of 2007.  David has raised $399,985 todate, including $131,133 in the fourth quarter of 2007, and has kept up withChris Murphy’s fundraising pace during his first year as a candidate againstformer Rep. Nancy Johnson.

“It’s an honor that so many have given their support to me in my fight to change Washington and bring real leadership and results to Congress,” said Cappiello.  “Despite the challenges candidates face competing with the holidays,we were able roughly double our 3rd quarter total.  I’m thrilled!”

In 2007, Cappiello has raised 412 contributions of under $250, highlighting the strong grassroots support thecampaign is receiving. Seventy-nine percent of the campaign’s receipts are from individuals.  In addition, Cappiello recently announced the formation of his campaign leadership team, as well as theendorsements of 32 current and former elected officials from across the FifthDistrict.

“As I’ve said since the day I announced my candidacy, Chris Murphy and his special interest allies will outspend us and pull out all the stops to hold on to his seat,” Cappiello continued.  “And while this quarter’s numbers prove that I’ll have the resources needed to compete and winin November, I’m particularly proud of the grassroots support our campaign has received.  It’s something thatmoney can’t buy, and far more meaningful to the average voter than the TV adsand glossy mailers they typically see.”

The Fifth District continues to gain attention by political observers as one of the hottest House races in the nation.  John Orman, chairman of the Politics Department at Fairfield University recently told The News-Times that the Fifth District is a “tossup” and “realshowdown”.  His comments follow praise of David Cappiello’s candidacy, with Washington Post political blogger Chris Cillizza listing David as one of both major parties’ “Top 2008 Recruits”.
