For Immediate Release Contact: Adam Bauer, 203.465.9674 7 January 2008 Cappiello Announces Campaign Leadership and First Round of Endorsements Danbury-- State Senator David Cappiello, candidate for Congress in Connecticut's Fifth District, today announced the formation of his Campaign Leadership Team. This group of distinguished comunity leaders and elected officials will serve as David's chief advisors in his campaign for Congress, and will lead the grassroots effort to spread his positive message for change in Washington. The campaign also announced its first round of endorsements from 29 current or former elected officials in the Fifth District who are supporting David for the Republican nomination for Congress.
"I'm truly humbled by the support these individuals have shown me as I campaign across the district to bring real leadership, real change, and real results to the US House of Representatives," said Cappiello. "I'm grateful that they have chosen to endorse my candidacy, and I'm proud to have earned their support." State Representative Bill Hamzy (78th District) will serve as Campaign Chairman. He will be joined by four Campaign Co-Chairs: State Representative Mary Ann Carson (108th District), Mayor Mark Boughton (Danbury), Mayor Ryan Bingham (Torrington), Mayor Tim Stewart (New Britain). "I've known David Cappiello since we were first elected to the Connecticut General Assembly together in 1994," said Representative Hamzy. "David is exactly the type of honest, pragmatic, hard-working leader the residents of the Fifth District deserve to have representing them in Congress. I'm proud to call him a friend, and look forward to calling him my Congressman."
"Above all, David Cappiello is a man of integrity," said Rep. Mary Ann Carson. "I've had the opportunity to work with him since 1999, and one thing has become perfectly clear- David is a man of his word. With Americans' confidence in Congress at record lows, it is critical to elect an individual who is a straight talker and means what he says. I have every confidence that David Cappiello is just that person." "During his service as a Representative and Senator in Hartford, David has never forgotten where he came from," said Mayor Boughton. "He's been a forceful and effective voice for Danbury and it's surrounding communities. When it comes to the issues that matter most to his constituents, David delivers, and he'll bring that same, much needed record of accomplishment to Congress." "Washington is broken, and it needs fresh, energetic leaders to tackle the many big issues facing Connecticut and America," said Mayor Bingham. "David Cappiello is that leader. He has a proven record as a bi-partisan, common-sense problem-solver who isn't afraid to speak his mind and do what's right for his constituents. We desperately need him in Congress." "David Cappiello is the best candidate to represent the unique needs of each community in the Fifth District," said Mayor Stewart. "He understands the needs of towns large and small because of the diverse district he represents in the Senate. David will be a Congressman that all 41 mayors and first selectmen can count on to listen to their concerns and work together with them to make Connecticut a better, more affordable place to live, work, and raise a family."
