David Cappiello is a lifelong resident of Danbury, Connecticut, with a strong record of delivering results for the community he loves. Elected in 1998, he is currently serving his fifth term in the State Senate representing: Danbury, New Fairfield, Bethel, and Sherman. Prior to his election to the Senate, David served two terms in the General Assembly.
David is a true Connecticut Republican- fiscally conservative because it’s your money, socially moderate because it’s your life. His legislative service has been guided by the core principles of: smaller, more efficient government; lower taxes and fiscal responsibility; protection of our civil liberties; a cleaner environment; and a strong national defense.
In the Senate, David has been a leader in keeping a lid on taxes and holding the line on excessive state spending. As the ranking Republican on the Appropriations Committee, he played a key role in shaping this year’s budget that invested heavily in healthcare, education, and energy reform WITHOUT raising your taxes. He’s helped bring good-paying jobs to our State by crafting a tax credit program for businesses that create jobs right here in Connecticut. And he’s fought hard to protect Connecticut’s spending cap while still funding our priorities such as the Teachers’ Pension Fund.
David has also played a prominent role in addressing Connecticut’s healthcare crisis. David played a major part in the Senate Republican effort to expand ConnPACE, which provides prescription drugs for the elderly and disabled, and he successfully fought to obtain State approval for Danbury Hospital to provide expanded, direct access to Cardiac Care for the Greater Danbury area. And thanks to legislation written by David and signed into law, all newborns in Connecticut are now screened for serious metabolic disorders.
David’s legislative service has earned him the praise of many civic and charitable organizations including:
CT Association of Non-Profits
AARP
The March of Dimes
Danbury War Memorial Association
Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut
The United Way
The American Red Cross of Western Connecticut
David graduated from Immaculate High School in Danbury and attended Western Connecticut State University. He and his wife, Christine, reside in Danbury with their two sons Jack Reagan and Jude Francis.
