Republican-American, 12 June 2008 I keep a fuel log for my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, noting the brand of gasoline, location, price per gallon, total purchase price and miles per gallon. On May 4, 2004, when I bought the truck new, I paid $1.88 a gallon for gasoline in Monroe, and then the upward price spiral began. In January 2007, after the Democrats took control of Congress, Speaker Nancy Pelosi solemnly looked the American public in the eye and told them the Democrats "had a comprehensive plan to reduce gasoline prices." On Jan. 11, 2007, I paid $2.42 a gallon for gasoline in Ansonia. After a year and a half of congressional investigations, speeches, finger pointing, hand wringing, outright lies and walking in circles, the same politicians have done absolutely nothing to reduce fuel prices. On June 3, 2008, I paid $4.34 a gallon for gasoline in Middlebury. These same politicians now promise taxpayers they have "a comprehensive plan for an affordable national health care system." Hang on to your wallets! James F. Matthews Sr. Woodbury |
